Editorial Services

What do I edit?

Books, short stories, essays, articles, advertisements (brochures, fliers, signs, posters), newsletters, PowerPoint decks, storyboards, corporate communications, resumes, blog posts, and websites (navigation, layout, content, and design recommendations for style.)

It is important to note that while I can do developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading, I should not be hired to do each step of the process. It is always helpful to have another set of eyes on the content along the way for the writer and the editor. If you need recommendations for a secondary editor, I'm happy to reach out to my network to find someone to partner with us through the editorial process. My goal is to make sure you, the writer, feel confident about the words you are gifting to the world.

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing is the first step in the editorial process, and it's one of my favorites. This is when I get to assist the writer with structure, theme, and continuity of the piece by asking intentional questions for clarity to further develop the story.

Depending on the length of the piece and budget constraints, I recommend a minimum of two rounds.
Rates are determined per project.

Hire me for developmental editing.

Copyediting

Copyediting is the second step in the editorial process. This is where I get to activate my inner grammar police and tackle spelling, punctuation, style, and syntax to tighten up the writing.

Depending on the length of the piece and budget constraints, I recommend a minimum of two rounds.
Rates are determined per project.

Hire me for copyediting.

Proofreading

Proofreading is the last step in the editorial process, and another favorite. This is the final read of the piece and where I search for the needles in the haystack; they may be missed typos, passive language, unnecessary words, or highlighting visual and editorial mistakes.

Depending on the length of the piece and budget constraints, I recommend a minimum of two rounds.
Rates are determined per project.

Hire me for proofreading.

Websites

As a former web designer, I love the art of creatively laying out content with a consistent style to draw visitors in, making them stay a while and return. Whether you currently have a website or just an idea for one, I will consult on layout, navigation, and content.

If you need actual design, like a logo or other artwork, I don't do that anymore. But I live with a guy who does, and we enjoy working on projects like these together.

Hire me to edit your website.

What I love to edit

Like all editors, I have a sweet spot. There are projects I love to edit because I am equally passionate about the genre of writing and/or the topic. If you have something that falls into one of these categories, chances are you're going to see me reach epic-level proportions of word-nerdom.

Genres: Non-fiction, Personal Narrative, Memoir, Biography, Autobiography, Self-help

Topics: Personal Growth & Development, Work/Life Balance, Spirituality, Femininity, Creative Living, Writing, Travelling

Examples*: Big Magic, Bad Feminist, The Big Leap, Agnostic, Between the World and Me, Wild, The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, Tracks

Hire me to be your editor.

*I did not edit these books. But I did edit this book.
